Composition II builds on the foundations of Composition I, which focused on sentence formation and paragraph structure. In Composition II, we will move from paragraph to essay writing. The fall semester of this year-long course focuses on expository writing and explores exposition through the use of compare and contrast, process, example, and classification. The course takes a process approach to writing and students will write and revise four essays for peer review and teacher correction. For the final exam, students will write an additional essay that demonstrates the ability to combine the various modes in an essay. In the spring semester, the emphasis will shift to argumentation and the mini-research paper.
